New Survey From eema, Everett And KPMG To Study The Effect Of The Economic Climate On Identity & Access Management
Findings to be exclusively revealed at ISSE 2009, 6th – 8th October, The Hague, The Netherlands
Information Security Solutions Europe (ISSE), Europe’s largest independent IT security and identity conference, today announced that the results of the first 2009 European Identity & Access Management (IAM) Survey will be announced at the opening plenary on 6th October. Organised and conducted by ICT security provider Everett and auditor KPMG, in partnership with the independent European e-Identity and security association, eema, the survey of organisations’ IAM user habits aims to analyse the impact of the current worldwide recession on organisations’ current and future IAM plans.
IAM concerns the secure identification and authorisation of individuals who require access to a network, series of networks or computer system and the control of permissions determining which resources these individuals can access and how. The 2009 IAM Survey asked business and IT professionals during July and August how proposed IAM plans have advanced and whether the economic crisis has affected business cases. CTO of Everett, Peter Valkenburg and Associate Partner at KPMG, John Hermans, will lead the keynote by looking at case studies highlighted by the survey, including the successes and failures of current IAM practices already in place.
According to Hermans, IAM is here to stay and its importance is ever increasing, “It is imperative for business and IT managers to understand ways of defining and refining their IAM strategy and understand that it is not just about technology. By analysing the results of the survey we will be able to identify current trends and contributing factors and learn how organisations are dealing with IAM, despite the growing constraints of the current economic crisis.”
Executive Director of eema, Roger Dean, adds, “Indubitably, the worldwide recession has increased the need for companies to be more efficient and frugal with budgets, in areas where previously there has been less control. Priorities need adjusting without losing out on IAM initiatives and project effectiveness.”
He continues, “However, the areas of IAM within the workplace that have a need for improvement are endless. With a clear lack of authorisation, solutions and in some cases funding, intellectual property is not being protected as it should be. Many organisations have projects underway to improve provisioning and user authentication and authorisation management but whether the plans put in place are effective, economical and effective still needs to be addressed.”
ISSE 2009 is sponsored by AEP Networks, Barracuda Networks, BlackBerry, CoreStreet. EDR Europe, DAP Technologies, DigiNotar, Everett, Grabowsky Identity Architects, Infraccent, Microsoft, Nexus Technology, Novell, PGP Corporation, SecurIT, Sharp Electronics, Siemens, Tools4ever and Nordic Edge.
