Keynote Speakers Announced for Europe’s Largest IT Security and Identity Conference

Representatives from KPMG, Everett and Adobe USA, join the Vice Mayor for International Affairs to give ISSE 2009 the most comprehensive programme to date

Date: 6th- 8th October 2009; Venue: Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel, The Hague, The Netherlands

eema, the Independent European e-Identity & Security Association, has today revealed the expert speakers who will deliver the keynote presentations at ISSE (Information Security Solutions Europe) 2009, in The Hague, 6th to 8th October. Dr. James C. King, PDF Platform Architect at Adobe Systems Inc, (USA), Peter Valkenburg, CTO at Everett and John Hermans, Associate Partner of KPMG will deliver keynote speeches alongside Frits Huffnagel, Vice Mayor and Alderman for International Affairs at the Municipality of The Hague. Huffnagel will be delivering an opening plenary at the start of ISSE 2009, alongside TeleTrusT, eema, ENISA and IIR.

Dr. James C. King will be delivering a keynote address on the first day entitled “Open standards for electronic documents and digital signatures” in which he will look at European standards in document exchange and their relation to today’s practical uses within the EU. King’s keynote will assess the widespread move to electronic documents and transactions, central to all business communication, focusing on the Portable Document Format (PDF).

King comments, ”It is extremely important for everyone to understand the transition that has happened with respect to PDF in the last 18 months. Delegates will learn about the recent work that promotes the more widespread use of both PDF and digital signatures within the EU, as well as additional steps organisations should be taking, to ensure the interchange of documents and information is trustworthy and secure.”

King will be followed by Peter Valkenburg, Everett and John Hermans, KPMG, who will present the results of an Identity and Access Management (IAM) survey, conducted to gain insight into security budgets, the impact of economic crisis, the current IAM situation and current and envisioned maturity. Delegates will be given a clear view on how security budgets relate to IAM budgets and how the economic crisis can affect organisation’s IAM business cases, plans and projects. The survey results will offer an insight into how well developed IAM solutions already are.

Hermans comments, “By comparing the results of companies, organisations can determine how well they meet or exceed their competitors’ performance. This information will allow people to decide how to spend their IT budget. We will outline the results of the survey per industry and region, giving delegates the opportunity to learn about what is happening in their area of work. IAM is here to stay and organisations need to take care of this topic and realise it is about interaction and action plans, not just technology.”

ISSE 2009 is a must-visit event for anyone wishing to learn more about the latest developments in corporate and government security and identity management. Delegates are invited to learn about the latest developments in technology, solutions, market trends and best practice.

Executive Director of eema, Roger Dean adds, “It is great to be hosting ISSE 2009, with another programme full of influential and well respected figures in the security sector. We have received fantastic feedback from delegates and speakers in the past and ISSE 2009 looks to be our most successful event to date. Events like ISSE 2009 are essential in the development of organisations. It gives business and IT managers an opportunity to check their own ideas with others facing similar challenges, allowing them to see what new trends and developments are available”

Despite the global downturn, ISSE continues to grow in scope and stature, as the chairman of the ISSE programme committee, Professor. Norbert Pohlmann from TeleTrusT observes, “It is fair to say that the economic climate is a major focus for the keynotes this year, with rigorous research and the adoption of interoperability standards becoming key success factors, especially when dealing with large-scale applications.”

Over 80 guest speakers will present to more than 400 representatives from across Europe at ISSE 2009, tackling issues including Open Standards & Open Security, Security Management & Economics of Security, Privacy and Data Protection and Identity and Access Management. Delegates from European governments, academic institutions and specialist technology providers will unite to debate and discuss these issues via presentations, panel discussions, round table sessions and workshops.

Delegates are invited to take part in a number of sessions, hosted by representatives from PricewaterhouseCoopers, McAfee, BBS eSecurity, SNG, T-Systems, Microsoft EMEA, Kaspersky Lab, Burton Group, Siemens AG, Intel, Ericsson and the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

ISSE 2009 is sponsored by CoreStreet, EDR Europe, Digi Notar, Everett, SecurIT, nexus, Novell, BlackBerry, McAfee, Microsoft and the Federal Office for Information Security.
